i would think (in general) that these 'sophisticated' pieces are done by pros simply for fun and entertainment. long before the net when i was working in tv there was always some tape or other circulating the edit rooms made up of outtakes or cleverly edited dialogue, or simply someone showing off their talents with an ado or even lowly vision mixer.
it probably wouldn't be that bad putting it on your cv either ;-) i know when i was hiring / looking for editors that a sense of humour was a definite advantage.
one my original showreels was a bunch of outtakes from assorted talking heads screwing up, laughing, etc., set to 'happy talkie talk' from south pacific. got me quite a number of jobs.
I laughed. Who does this stuff? It's brilliant but do they make money on YouTube doing this? Is it just a game of hits? Or is this just for fun?
Sadly, how it generally works these days is that someone makes an inspired, creative video like that, possibly monetized for small change on YouTube, but probably not. Then all the bottom feeders profit from it by re-uploading it instead of sharing it. Just look at these search results after just 5 days. And this is just 2 sites!
