Hey Sonic, best wishes go out to you. Use as many chuffy synth patches as make you feel good :-)

From 44 seconds in I liked it with the exception of the panpipes. And at 2:43 there is an abrupt change which jarred.

But I found it very soothing, easy to listen to, and with the exception of my comments above, really very pleasing and appealing to my ears.

Any objections to me downloading a copy?

(Edit: just moved on to "Dream Groove" which reminds me of The Cure's 'Disintegration' album. Love the moodiness of your composition.)

Thanks. Now, since more than one person here used the term "chuffy" I really have no idea what is meant by that. In the first third of the verse part (each part repeats once with slight variations in second, then chorus x 2, then back to doubled verse parts, chorus x2 + chorus x1 with extra guitarish melody overlay., I use a kind of xylophone patch, in the firs verse part -- is that what is mean by "chuffy" -- if not, could you or someone else please 'splain?

Thanks.

Lenny - Thanks for comment. The abrupt part you refer to is probably the return to the first verse part after 2x chorus (as laid out in reply to Geoff). As stated at the SonicCloud page, it's only a draft mix, so I don't have a downloadable copy there. None of my three pieces there are really finals, though the "A New Manhood" one is probably OK mix-wise (though I'm probably asking for trouble saying that at this forum - lol). But thanks for asking.

The "chuffy" melody synth patch in the intro was what I was referring to. The short of gushy body after the attack of each note. Like in the intro of Mike & The Mechanics "In The Living Years", and others.

Very '80s, though that's not necessarily a bad thing ;-)

Well, perhaps I can (or may not) redeem myself here in the eyes or ears of some here in terms of my musical chops as it were...

I dug up a couple of of my first classical-esque pieces, hopefully not as controversial OP piece here. Please read the similar descriptions at SoundCloud of both and the circumstances in 1993 when these were created before jumping all over me for the quality. BTW I had never created classical type music before, nor do I read or write music; but my mother used to listen to quite a bit of classical when I living with her. I compose/arrange/play strictly by instinct and ear.

Uccellino (Little Bird) Classical Sketch- Strings and flute - lento

Classical Sketches in 3 Movements- Strings - adagio

Thanks, Geoff, for the clarification on that term. I had guessed right. :)

"Now, since more than one person here used the term "chuffy" I really have no idea what is meant by that"

I didn't use that word but it certainly describes it well. Think steam train or steam organ: chuff. chuff. chuff. Oh, pan pipes sound "chuffy" to me if that helps.

I just realised I have a client who does much the same music and with even chuffier synths. Difference is she uses her synth stuff as a backing to her playing violin. Just having that one real instrument in the mix excuses the rest I feel.

Thanks, Bob. I'll be more careful to not feature said chuff-ness from now on. I don't use it much actually. Those really early first forays of classical-ese shared here later are mercifully chuff-free. :)
