OT: urgent Betacam SP help needed

TheHappyFriar schrieb am 17.01.2004 um 17:08 Uhr
I didnt't want to post this here, but Sony tech support is closed, can't find the info i need on the web, and Sony's fax on demand doesn't have the info I need.
I've got a BetaSP play at work (model UVW-1200). Just today i put a tape in and it started telling me the error code 02-694 & to contact support. Of course support is closed today (saturday). Anyone know what the code means and how to fix it? thanks!

I called a "super tech" friend of mine, but he couldn't recall the code. He said he'd be happy to check for you on Tuesday (the next day back in the shop) but I am assuming by then you will have the problem licked.
Sorry I wasn't any help, but wanted you to know that we're trying...

Good Luck,
Brian

That player only accepts metal tape. Make sure your tape is metal.
I have the same unit but I can't help you. The manual is no help either.

Well, I didn't figure out the code exactly, but I DID fix the deck. I'll tell ya how just in case it happens to you. :)

Basicly, turn the unit on. Then, hold down the LEFT arrow. Hit the menu button. Now a special service menu pops up (if you have the charector's displaying on your TV). Now you can MANUALY wrap the tape aaround the heads, eject the tape, etc.

The whole problem started because a Beta we got had the start of the tape physicaly crumpled. :)

thanks!

I can tell you this from many years of Beta experience. The uvw series needs matenance every year. Error 2 on beta is a transport error I think. This is always the first problems, usually with pinch rollers. We have uvw, pvw, and bvw series decks here. Find an engineer at a local tv station that knows beta machines and hire him/her freelance for any work you need done on the unit. Much cheaper than sending to sony for repairs.

I work at a local TV station. :) We've been looking for someone to work on our DVC & 3/4" decks for months. Know anyone in the Buffalo, NY area?

The problem started with the tape. It was physicaly crumpled when we got it (on the takeup reel). And thanks to risce's error list, i can now print it out and put it in the book. :)
thanks!
