@Reyfox Thanks for that, I can wait 👍 My dad died just before Xmas, it's ok he was old 85 n had a good life, my PC is ok but I'm 53 now & there's a little money coming from his will so i'm thinking of treating my self to a really good PC, (I've got to build myself a new desk area for that tho 😁) if i do buy a new PC i'll have that by then & can install Continuum on that, I'm just about to buy basic Vegas Pro 18, i guess my choice now is do i buy the Vegas Pro Suite & get the extra Newblue transitions 5, that should keep on working after future upgrades, I've already got 5 Newblue products that keep working, a couple are a few yrs old 👍

@Ehemaliger User ... If you planning on getting BorisFX Continuum Complete (BCC), keep in mind that BCC includes an impressive range of transitions - see https://borisfx.com/products/continuum/?tags=unit:Transitions&search= for the current BCC transitions range.

From a $$$ perspective, it might be worth considering if you really need two transition packages. I guess you'll have some price comparisons to do before buying to work out which combination of products is most effective for your editing needs along with what's best for your budget.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I lost mine a couple of years ago, but he lived a good life to 90. I'm just a "little" older than you, 68.

NBFX OFX plugins have no issues working across the different versions of VP I've had installed. Much better than BorisFX. I still have NBFX Title Pro 5 from I think VP15 Suite, still working in VP18 Edit. That along with other NBFX OFX plugins. Getting the VPSuite will certainly cost less than if you purchased the NBFX Trans Ultimate separately, in addition to getting the other Boris and Soundforge addons. This should hold you over until Black Friday, where you can decide if you want to get the entire BorisFX Continuum.

When my new Vegas buddy saw what he got with BorisFX Continuum 2021, let's just say, he still hasn't fully recovered from it since last year.

And I second what @Dexcon said about the transitions in BorisFX Continuum Complete.

@Reyfox @Dexcon

Thanks Reyfox, Sorry Black Fri is going to have to wait but it might buy me something else 😁 had a weird day today.

Went for it & bought Vegas Pro 18, 🤣😁👍

Over the last few days i looked into Boris Continuum, decided it was a bit pricey & i would wait till Black Fri but the licencing still worried me a bit, everywhere else i looked everyone kept mentioning Perpetual licence ??🤷‍♂️ even when i read the Boris description of licences, monthly, yearly etc i still was unsure, $695 is a lot to spend on something you're not 100% sure about, so yesterday i sent a msg in the little popup chat window o Boris's site asking about it, he answered today, i guess it was night time in Boston when i sent it & i got a clearer understanding of the Perpetual/New licence after a few back n forth msgs, he asked was i interesting in buying Continuum n could he help, i told him i need t buy Vegas first which i'll prob get this wk'end, he said he could get me Continuum with the permanent (perpetual 😉) licence for $295, a big drop from the on screen price of $695,

hmmm i thought, I was at work just then but within an hr of getting home later i had Vegas Pro 18, (the basic one, not the one with Boris extras) & Boris Continuum bought n installed 😂😂🤣🤣🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ no prob, i paid PayPal while he was still on the Chat msg thingy, i got an email receipt & another email with an Activation key, he posted a link in the chat window to the download, it went as smooth as it could 👍

Yep Reyfox there's a lot! 😮👍 295 files in the OFX folder & another 77 in the GPU accelerated folder,

That'll keep me going for a while 👍👍🤣🤣 Thanks a lot for the help,👍👍

if i go to the Video FX tab - All Plug-Ins on the Vegas main screen & try searching in the box at the top it crashes the program, too many for it to get it's head around i guess, I'll have to learn to use the other tabs at the top to reduce the search count,

Thanks a lot for the help,👍👍

Reyfox schrieb am 16.03.2021 um 22:31 Uhr

@Ehemaliger User I don't use the VideoFX tab. What I have docked is the Plugin Manager. It lists everything in folders (like how it used to be before VP18). That way, everything is in it's proper place. View>Window>Plugin Manager. Much easier to work with for me than scrolling through all those plugins which aren't related to each other.

Good job getting in contact with them. It saved you $300.

Now you don't have to worry about moving forward. Take a look at the transitions too. I spent one night with just Particle Illusion... and don't forget to download all the Emitters. BCC Particles>Particle Illusion. Drag to a clip. Click on Launch Particle Illusion. Once the window is open, Help>download Emitters. A whole bunch will be downloaded. You also now have the standalone version in your Start button.

@Reyfox Thanks just looked & i've got a little purple hexagonal Particle Illusion in the Start menu, it's at the top because it's recent & i've installed so much that 12 programs was compressed to 4, i had to Expand that top area, i'd have missed that 🤦‍♂️😁

I had a quick play with a few effects but there's soooo many 😁 I've been playing with Particle illusion, yep downloaded particles from Boris, that works fine, i like that is there just the one bunch of free emitters? 👍the search box is behaving itself now, i think it just needed to settle in, i reinstalled the Nvidea graphics driver, also for quite a few mths i've been having problems with the Intel driver, i update it but a few days later it's rolled back to an earlier version, quite a lot earlier, so much so that i have the downloaded driver in a folder so i don't have to go online to reinstall it, & cleaned PC, also i turned the PC off instead of Restarting it.

playback on the Preview of applied particle illusions to the timeline is a bit grumpy but i'll work that out,

The website price for Continuum £695 is about £500, it's a smaller no' but still sounds a lot, but $295 I paid is only £212.50, that's a much nicer no' 😁 That $295 price is a special for Vegas users he said 🤷‍♂️

No regrets yet that i've just spent £550 on Vegas & Boris to make pretty pictures 😂😂 & yeah i'm going to have quite a few late nights 👍

Thanks 👍

Reyfox schrieb am 17.03.2021 um 11:58 Uhr

@Ehemaliger User you can run Particle Illusion and Title Studio as standalone products without having to open an editor.

If you downloaded the emitters from within PI, you have all that there is, and that's a lot. Playback depends on your settings and hardware and how many particles are being shown. A lot is happening. You can work with the standalone and might achieve better playback, but you can't work with it on a video.

I enjoy working with Vegas a lot. And having BorisFX makes my life easier doing things that Boris does better. You've made a good decision that will last you a very long time.

I couldn't agree more @Reyfox

And @Ehemaliger User  ... one of the brilliant inclusions in BCC VFX (not transitions though) is that most but not all VFX have access to basic Mocha in the FX window. BorisFX's Mocha provides planar tracking. This means that if you want an effect to only affect a certain area of an image along with tracking that selected image (the most obvious in news programs is pixelating or blurring the face of a moving person), then in the BCC FX window in Vegas Pro you can open Mocha and use planar tracking to track the desired area of the image, save it in Mocha, and then return to the FX window. Hint, add a small amount of feathering (maybe 5 or 10) to the Mocha mask via the controls in the FX window in order to soften the mask edge. Equally, if you just want to color grade a specific area of an image, using the inbuilt Mocha function with its masking is an enormous help. There's a bit of a learning curve with using Mocha, but once you get used to it, I think you'll find it invaluable.

There's heaps and heaps of tutorial videos on BorisFX's website - https://borisfx.com/videos/?tags=product:Continuum&search=

Even if many of them are not directly related to Vegas Pro, many of the principles still apply when using BCC in Vegas Pro (though a little more difficult with BCC in After Effects because AE has many more compositing functions than Vegas Pro). However, there is a selection option to limit Continuum training videos to Vegas Pro.

As per Reyfox, many hours of happy editing.

🥱🙋‍♂️ Hi, late night/early morning for me, went to bed about 5am, was playing on everything 😁👍

Yep the Mocha will be interesting, for yrs i've masked my number plate & other things in my YT vids, Magix edit has some similar features, so I'm familiar with keyframes & mask tracking etc, i've a folder with many B&W masks, (they're not needed now 😄) but even using Xara Photo Designer they're both very limited, there's still a lot of manual work altering the area frame by frame to make it follow the plate/face.., but stating the obvious Vegas & Boris are lot More!, it'll be good, they'll quell my frustration of not being able to something in Magix, i've a steep learning curve altering my ways a little n learning new stuff, it's good for my head 😎😁 n Yep watched all Boris vids before installing, had to watch quite a few again last night 🤣 but it was good i could watch n pause on one screen & follow in Particle illusion on my other screen 👍

Thanks 👍👍

Hi, sorry i know this is off topic a bit so a simple yes/no will do but my new RAM just got delivered today,, finally, 2 more 16G sticks 😁

when i got this PC it had 16G of RAM, there's 4 RAM ports for 4 sticks, whoever built it put that 1st 16G stick in the 2nd port, presumably because the 1st port is quite close to the CPU fan & difficult to get in, I increased it to 32G with another stick not long after & out of easiness i just put it in next to the other in the 3rd port (3 away from the CPU fan) but now buying 2 more i had to use all 4 ports, getting the one in next to the fan wasn't that hard, i think the builder was just being lazy, he said it made no difference where it went but..

my question is..I don't think i had any problem with my PC, at 16G or 32G but if you have 4 RAM stick ports but only 1 RAM stick, should it go in the no'1 slot or does it not make a difference, it could go in no' 1,2,3 or 4, any of them?

Thanks

@Ehemaliger User

Typically, and more so Intel "Mainstream" motherboards, but since AM4 for AMD boards; this is a "hold-out" from the original tracing of the Memory DIMM slots to the CPU issue due to length outside of specifications.

Most modern Intel and AMD boards, mainstream (not HEDT like X58/X79/X99/X299 for Intel; X399 for AMD), if only ONE DIMM Module, it goes into the "Second" slot from the CPU. This would also be the slot if using say a Micro-ATX/Mini-ITX with only Two DIMM slots as well (for most motherboards, though best thing to check is the actual manual provided by the Manufacturer). If the motherboard has "Four - 4" slots, and you are installing a "matching pair", then it would be the second slot, then the fourth, or "furthest" slot away.

The majority of the "Trace Length Issues" have been eradicated, but I tend to believe the Manufacturers have left the installation order alone - basically, "why change something that is working".

Again, the best information is opening up that manual, or if you don't have one, go to the Manufacturer site, and download a copy. It's free, cheap, and I would say never wrong, but that is just giving Mr. Murphy ample "Fire Power!" to prove me wrong! 😄

Reyfox schrieb am 17.03.2021 um 22:09 Uhr

@Ehemaliger User as long as the RAM is the same spec and maker, it should work.

One big difference between MEP and Vegas is everything is "upside down" with MEP. With Vegas and other editors, an overlay (such as text) is placed over the video, not under the video. Adobe Elements and Pinnacle Studio are basically the only 2 consumer (paid) editors that edit the way professional editors do, albeit less complex.

We've discussed this before but Magix Movie Edit Pro is a consumer level programme like Vegas Movie Studio so cannot really be compared to Vegas Pro. Magix Video Pro X is the Magix equivalent of Vegas Pro.
