Text To Speech isnt working

J.S schrieb am 05.02.2022 um 05:58 Uhr

Hi

So I've recently purchased VEGAS PRO 19 full version as a one-off, and when I am trying to use the Text-To-speech tool it isn't working. This little box in the pic below pops up instead. Does anyone know what I can do about it ? Wasn't this tool supposed to be working since I've purchased the full version of VEGAS PRO 19 ? Thanks a lot in advance!

The Text to Speech feature requires online service and currently only available with the subscription version.

Oh ok , thank you! Is it potentially going to be available to people who purchased it as a one-off ?

Unlikely. It's been mentioned on the forum in recent months that VEGAS has to pay ongoing licencing/usage fees to the 3rd party company providing the text to speech service. This is funded by the ongoing subscription payments for Vegas Pro. If subscription payments cease, then access to Vegas Pro also ceases as will the licencing/usage fees Vegas has to pay the text to speech company. If text to speech were available with an outright perpetual purchase of Vegas Pro, that version of Vegas Pro could well still be being used in 5 years time or even longer and Vegas would not be recovering any ongoing licencing/usage fees that they'd have to pay that 3rd party company indefinitely. The above is my understanding of the situation.

Thank you! That's a pity. I think it would be good to make like an extra payment option for the ones that paid a one-off for the program in order to be able to use Text-to-speech aswell, or have it available to them for the first year or something and then only through extra monthly payment ...

RogerS pointed us to this site https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/cognitive-services/text-to-speech/#features

It's the same voices that Vegas uses but most likely plays at the lowest bitrate. With Vegas I believe you can choose different bitrates or qualities for the voices (not certain) . The demo site times out after either a certain duration of use or amount of plays, most likely also a limit on the amount of text you can add. You have to manually capture the audio with a screen recorder/audio recorder and bring it into vegas.

It's a reasonable compromise. It is the same with Adobe premiere pro and Photoshop, there are AI functions that require cloud processing
