Video Capture :Lost 'Video Capture' dialog windo

Cannot select HDV in order to capture tape. Camcorder set to HDV and on playback

XP VP10d,
same computer (dual boot). Can open VP and capture so problem must lie within W7 & VP settings.
How do I get VP10 capturing from within Windows 7.

‘Capture’ is opening in DV and I am not getting the option to select HDV. Hence the camera is found but cannot be opened. Normally the capture window automatically selects the device and format.

Manual implies 'Capture Video dialog' is displayed allowing me to select SD or HDV. I cannot access this dialog window. Had a good look round Option->prefs but cannot see anything obvious to check/uncheck.

How can I access the SD or HDV selection window?

Hi Geoff,

You may have accidentally selected "always use selected format" in the window that asks you to choose DV or HDV so now it only opens the DV capture.

You can reset this by selecting the preferences menu whilst holding the "shift" key.

You will see an extra tab called "internal" if you type "capture" into the "Show only prefs containing" box you will see an option called "Ask about capture app". If this is set to "FALSE" change it to "TRUE" (the default setting) click apply then OK.

The Capture Video command should now behave as before, asking you if you want to capture DV or HDV.

Hope this helps.

I switched to HDV Split and found Capture was OK (via Options-prefs-video external). I then returned to sony vidcap6 and unchecked use external vid cap. This fixed things in that the HDV capture was now selected by default.

I'm sure you are correct about my selecting a fixed format.

Changing 'Ask about capture'....' to TRUE fixed the dialog box

Many thanks for your assistance. I'd never have found that fix.
Made a note in the manual. Those default values are most useful.
