When I render my video there usually a box/tab that shows the time the video will finish rendering and it opens the folder that the video is in open. All of a sudden the tab/ box is gone, buses still render just not with that box.

I think you tried to open an SFK or SFL file, which definitely is not your media file. Your Render As dialog will tell you exactly where you rendered your Media file, which will be MP4, MPG, AVI, or whichever media format you rendered it
