1.0 and 2.0 Won't Work with Plextor

I downloaded the demo version of DVD Architect 2.0 along with the sample burning file. DVD-A 2.0, just like DVD-A 1.0, will not even recognize the existence of my Plextor 708 drive. Every other brand of DVD burning software is compatible with this drive. I'd have to be an iditio to pay $199.99 or $249.99 to "upgrade" to software that does not work with a drive that is popular and has been out on the market for months. I was also surprised that even though I was told by customer support that there were new themes, in fact all the themes looked to me to be the same old ones.

I also have the Plextor 708A drive (internal)

It works perfectly with DVD-A 1.0

Have you checked Plexror's web site to be sure you have the latest firmware? They have updates from those shipped with the unit

I am not able to burn to a DVD- with my plextor 708a, but a friend of mine with the same drive has been able to fix this problem by using a DVD+. I already have numerous DVD- and would really prefer to use those. : (. Sony still has not emailed me back on this problem. grrr.

I am having the same issue with the plextor 708a - I have installed the updated firmware, re-installed dvda and still not working - it works fine with my pioneer drive though

I have the 708UF and it worked fine with the DVD+R that came in the box but will not work with the Verbatim DVD-R media that I bought based upon the compatibility/recommended list on Plextor's own website. Does that mean this is a Sony problem or a Plextor problem? I also purchased a pack of 50 DVD-R so I'd hate to not be able to use them.

P.S. I have DVDA2

There will be a fix in the next update of DVDA2 which addresses compatibility issues with Plextor drives.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you and...

Any idea when that update might be coming? :)

I also have Plextor's 708UF burner. This forum has a lengthy history of posts noting that +R discs are recogniozed by DVDA 1 (& now DVDA2) but with -R, neither ver of DVDA sees the drive. That's certainly been my experience. Absence of this capability seems like a strange example of prioritizing. Despite all the other enhancements incorporated into DVDA2, this is such a glaring omission it gives the whole product a bad name.

I cannot speak to the update, but I find that burning with Nero 5.5 works quite well. You can still get copies on eBay (Nero is now at version 6) for about $5. I just did a quick search on eBay using "nero 5.5*" as the search term and came up with 63 items, almost all of them under $5.
