10 hour render normal???

I've just tried to render a 90 minute project that is an avi file...unfortunately I can't go back to the veg file so the couple of changes I need have to be made to the avi. I have added just 2 three or four second clips and letterboxed using ZENOTE and as I look at my render time it is going to take around 10 1/2 hours...is this normal or is there a better way to do this...I don't mind quitting it now if there is cause I am only 30 minutes in so far...

Well, one quick thing to look at that i can think of is to check whether you're applying the letter boxing to just the new clips you added or to the entire video. If you only need it on the new clips then removing it from the rest of the video should speed it up enormously.

What format are you rendering to? If you're rendering to something other than an identical AVI format then it's going to take a while no matter what.

Is 10 hours normal? Hard to say. I've had some renders that take 200 or more hours. I've had some that take 1.3 seconds. It all depends on the project.

actually I am applying the letterbox to the entire length and yes, I am re-doing it as an avi file....it's just leapt up to 11 hours...oh dear! I am a little surprised. I expected possibly 4 or 5 hours, but 11(so far) seems an awful lot...I guess I just need to know that it is normal and that I haven't missed something....thanks for the quick reply...

Thanks for all the work you put in...that was the kind of timing I would have been pleased with...the render has crept up to almost 12 hours now! To answer you question...The original avi had plug-ins throughout the entire movie when it was a veg file (before it was rendered). All I added to was two quicktime clips that are about 4-5 secs long, the letterboxing throughout, and one 3 sec subtitle to the 20 gig avi...

I don't know if this helps but I am staring and 10 hours of rendering still...
