I got people visiting US- in the next 2 weeks . .what can they buy me? Now don't be too silly! that's my job . . But seriously, something video NOT too expensive . . . I'd really like a Matte Box . ..
At first glance, there doesn't appear to be a lot of difference.
For example, at Amazon, Spot's book, Vegas 5 Editing Workshop, is close to the same price ($34 vs. £38).
Then you look at the exchange rate and discover that £38 = $68 :-(
BTW, it's $50 in Canada (currently $40 US so we're a bit better off).
Different Stores sell at different prices Obviously But just as an example The American ADOBE Website sells After Effects Professional for $1000
The UK ADOBE Website sells the Same Product for £1075 If your in the UK And you tried to Purchase from the American site ,They would look at your Country of Origin and divert you there !
It's gotta be Spot's Book "Vegas 5 Editing Workshop 2nd Edition" . . 'Cos I've got no idea when and how this will appear in the UK . . Now all I need is a good, fast supplier to Florida!?
How about a DV camcorder with firewire-in enabled? I have found lots of uses for my little Sony 1-chip TRV-18. Sometimes I use it as a deck connected to my PD-150 on event shooting, so I make sure I don't miss anythinng when I'm changing tapes. Sometimes I use it to hook up a laptop to an external monitor. Plus, it's also handy for crazy shots where I don't want to risk my 3-chipper. Could work for those NTSC dubs mentioned above, too.
Grazie,
About brians suggestion, good as it is, remember the small point about PAL and whatitsname. Hard to get PAL stuff over there.
About prices, remember I was on about the BeachTek DXA-8? If I had bought it over the counter in UK, gotten the VAT back as a non-EU tourist and smuggled it into Norway (not paying Norwegian moms - wouldn't do that on purpose of course, but being a few months older than you I never know what i remember and what I forget) it would still cost more than what I paid at B&H (New York) INCLUDING the delivery service (UPS) and Norwegian moms (which is 24%, mind you).
So if you can have someone pick stuff up at a low price shop in the US and bring it over you could retire on the savings. Especially if your people are old.
But please don't. Retire, I mean.
