$1000 Control Surface Reward

Hey guys--

I'm a huge Vegas fan, but have a major problem that prevents me from using it in my workflow at the studio.

I have a Yamaha DM2000 mixing board, and need to be able to use it as an External Control Surface for Vegas. (Generic control that does not move the faders just isn't adequate-- I need Vegas to control the faders)

I have posted many times in various forums, called tech support for both Yamaha and Sony , but to no avail.

So I've decided to post this $1000 reward for anyone (be they sony developer, Yamaha developer, freelance programmer or whoever.) who can get Sony Vegas 7 or Sony Vegas 6 or Sony Vegas 5 to work with my Yamaha DM2000 properly-- not just generic control.

I had written about improvements needed for Vegas 7, and love the multi-channel wav support.

I'm really hoping that this message gets a response with someone who can help me solve this problem.

The DM2000 supports the HUI protocol unfortunately. We currently don't provide a HUI protocol driver for Vegas.

There is not much that you can do until we (or Yamaha ) develope either a native driver for the DM2000 or we support the HUI protocol.

We are looking at developing generic HUI support in the future as it is supported by many third party hardware devices. (The MCU protocol is more popular though.)

I would love to have native support for the DM2000, but so far we have been unable to convince Yamaha to provide us a unit for developement purposes.

However - there may be a work around for you.

A company called WiseMix (http://www.wisemix.com/) has a Mackie Control Emulator. Basically this will translate other control msgs into MCU compatible msgs. I have toyed around with it and it works for simple controller mappings. You may be able to use this as a stop gap.

It is far from ideal, but it may get you working until a native or HUI solution is available.

Peter-

Thank you for your thorough response! This has been (by far) the most information anyone has given me about the subject. I had been a bit confused about the differences between HUI and MCU.

I had talked to Yamaha tech support a couple of months ago, and they assured me that they had sent you a unit, and that you guys just hadn't done anything. I am going to call them today and ask them to send something over to you guys. I think they will, especially since they said they already have. Is there anyone in particular I should put them in touch with?

Their tech support number is 1 866 211 9366 if anyone from over at Sonic Foundry/Sony wants to give a call. Ask for Tai.

I am going to try out this WiseMix program, and find out if it provides an intermediate solution.
Thanks again!

The WiseMix program, unfortunately, didn't work. Will keep you posted with what goes on with yamaha

I'd say... eBay your Yamaha... and tack on the $1000... and buy the Mackie.
