12 Platinum graphics card support

bandit85 wrote on 12/7/2012, 9:50 AM
I just got 12 working and went to the video preferences page about the accelerated performance from an graphics card.

I upgraded my graphics card to a Genforce GT640 and can't get the option to get Movie 12 to recognize it for video processing.

Is there something I can do to make it recognize it? And if not is there a list of graphics cards that are compatible for Movie Studio 12 to get the best performance out of it?

Have you gone to the ATI web site and downloaded the latest driver?
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

You may be using the generic Windows-supplied graphics driver.

Steve's right re: driver, but since it is a Geforce card, go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest driver.

Oops! Thanks, Mark! I was thinking Radeon drivers.

GeForce are indeed nVidia.

You may be a bit ahead of the technology curve as NVIDIA changed their architecture for the 600 Series Kepler cards and they don't seem to work with Movie Studio like the 500 and 400 Series Fermi cards do. Hopefully Sony will add support but you'd have been better off with a GTX 570 for now.

Post your system specs....Is it a new CPU with an internal/embedded GPU (iGPU)? If so, are you sure your system is using the NVidia card?

With new systems there are ways via the BIOS to allow for the iGPU to do the video processing but send the output to the monitor via the discrete GPU. I ran into that problem very recently.

I have a GTX650Ti and VMS sees it.

My computer is an HP Pavilion h8-1010 with 8GB RAM and Intel Core i5-2390T. It runs Windows 7 64 bit.

And yes the card has all the latest drivers.

Cool. That's good to know that some 600 Series cards are working.

Looking at the specs for the i5-2390T, it appears that it has the Intel Graphics HD2000. That means you have an iGPU. Do you see two video outputs at the back?

How familiar are you with BIOS settings?
If you right click on the desktop, do you see the NVidia control panel menu item? If so, what is that set at? Or if you right click do you right click and see graphics properties that brings up the Intel display panel?

It came with a Radeon HD 6450 card, but it was only 512MB. The new one it is the NVidia that I put in and yes it has two outputs in the back. The old one didn't.

Go to Device Manager, click on Display adapters...How many and what are they?
bandit85 wrote on 12/10/2012, 2:03 AM
There is only one and all the drivers are up to date.

That eliminates that as a potential issue...Still no solution though :(

I have dual-GPU system (Nvidia) and it works great in VMS Plat 12-64bit.

Make sure you go to nvidia.com and download the latest software - I think it's "306.23 WHQL". Run that software and you should then be able Right-Click on an emplty area of your desktop. That will bring up the Nvidia control-panel where you "Enable" the GPU.

I am very interested to know what cards do work with Platinum.
I emailed Sony for an official answer, but it's been months!

I wish to upgrade from my Nvidia GTX-285 but I'm affraid the 6xx cards won't be compatible. (i.e. 660-TI, 670 etc.)

Can people reply with Cards they KNOW work (from 1st hand experience)?
I am most interested in Nvidia, but a list of AMD cards would be helpful to others I'm sure.

Or, should I start a new thread?

Suggest to start a new thread.

I can confirm Nvidia GTX680 working with VMS12 64bit, in Windows 8.

Guys I think you are being hoodwinked.

I had 12 build 360 something and it refused to render using GPU. It would give me an unspecified error.

I updated to build 896 and it doesn't give the error anymore, however even though I've selected to use GPU, and it shows "CUDA available", it's still using the CPU.

The rendering times are identical whether I use GPU or CPU.

I have an Nvidia GTX660 with Nvidia driver version 314.22 (the latest available)

I really wish Sony would update this and actually fix the functionality instead of trying to fool people into thinking their GPU is working.
