1394 / Canon Elura 20mc & Vegas Video

I am new to Vegas Video, trying to pull video in from my Canon Elura 20mc with a firewire cable on a IBM THinkpad that has built in 1394 running XP.

When I go to preferences and video and set it to firewire, it says device unavailable, but the rest looks ok. The camera is turned on connected. When I then go to capture and select video I don't have an option to select that. I also have the built in philips svideo capture that shows and a webcam that is connected to the machine, but no 1394 device?

HELP please!

When you hook up and turn on a DV device, it should show up in Device Manager under "Imaging Devices" and in Video Capture, it should appear in the Video menu as "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR".

Perhaps this 1394 port on the Thinkpad isn't OHCI compliant?
