16:9 --> 4:3 pan and scan?

What is the best way to convert a true (anamorphic) 16:9 original into a version (print to tape) suitable for a 4:3 screen with a modified version of the original presented in a pan and scan format, ie with the sides trimmed? If the best method is in the pdf version of the Vegas 6.0 manual, just refer me to the page number(s).

Choose a non-widescreen template, such as NTSC DV or PAL DV. Drop the 16:9 clip on the timeline. Open up the Pan/Crop window.

(Does Vegas Studio do this?) Right-mouse-button click in the Pan/Crop frame, choose "match output aspect".

(If Vegas Studio doesn't do that) Enter the output frame size for width and height. For NTSC the values are 720x480. For PAL it's 720x576.

You'll now have the middle of the 16:9 frame filling the 4:3 frame. You can use Pan/Crop with keyframes to pan across the image as necessary. With older versions of MovieStudio/VideoFactory that don't have keyframes you'll have to split every time you want the pan to start/stop/change directions and use the Begin and End buttons to set the movement.
