16:9 and 4:3 on the same disk

I have done a couple of short promos which I want to look good on both 4:3 and 16:9 TVs. Currently what I do is a simple menu with 4:3 and 16:9 playback options. The 4:3 playback option is the default choice. The 16:9 video is generated from 4:3 footage with the aspect ratio changed in Vegas.

Is there a better way to do this? I like video that fills the screen, whether it be on a 4:3 or 16:9 set. What I'd love is if the DVD would just play back in the correct aspect ratio as determined from the DVD player setup settings: 4:3 on a 4:3 set and 16:9 on a 16:9 set. Is this possible?

Sounds like a great idea, accomadating all users, whether they've got a 4X3 or a 16X9. A lot of extra work, though.

I've done a bunch of "4:3 & 16:9 on the same disc" projects in DVDA 2. Won't DVDA 3 let you do this anymore? I've updated, but I haven't tried that since upgrading.

Here's the deal. To my knowledge you cannot mix 4x3 & 16x9 rendered projects together with DVD A, but you do have a few options.

Sure you can. You can't mix them within a single titleset, but you certainly can have both formats on a single disc.

Thank you for this post. I wish it was described in the help files.

The only thing I have to add is if you want your menus to show up as regular 720x480, leave DVD-A's properties to regular 720x480.
