16:9 help

I have a project shot in 16:9 (my first try). I want to use an intro shot that a friend shot in regular 4:3 aspect. What I would like to do is start with the 4:3 and then "expand" the picture to the 16:9 as it transitions to my footage.

Is this even possible? If so how would I go about it?

if you set your project properties to widescreen and you drag in some 4:3 footage, vms will automatically "pillar box" it by putting black bars on either side.

is that what you mean?

Not exactly. I want to start with the 4:3 "fullscreen" and then have it slowly change to the 16:9 with the letterboxes on the top and bottom.

I've gotten close, but can't get it exactly right using the Pan and Crop features.
