16:9 help

I posted this to the Movie Studio forum, but with no help. I'm using VMS Platinum, so hopefully it will work the same as Vegas 6.0.

I'm doing my first project shot in 16:9 and I have some "intro" footage from a friend, shot in 4:3 that I would like to use to open the project. From there, I would like to transition to the 16:9 by basically "shrinking" the top and bottom into the Letterbox format. I've tried to do this with the Pan and Crop feature, but you can't assign the "Maintain Aspect Ratio" to separate keyframes, so I have no idea how to do this or if it's even possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't see any problem. I put a 4:3 clip on the timeline and opened up Pan/Crop. I added a keyframe where i wanted the cropping to start and left that at the default value. Then i added another keyframe where i wanted it to end up at 16:9 and used the 16:9 template. The clip started playing full screen, then gradually changed to cropped, then finished playing cropped. No need to tinker with aspect ratios at all.

Thank you!

It may seem simple to you, but that took me hours of playing around and the results were less than desirable. After your post.... less than five minutes to get *exactly* what I wanted.

Thanks again.

To repeat myself: These are the settings I use when cropping video or for still photos:

Project settings:
* Full resolution rendering quality: Best
* Motion blur type: Gaussian
* Deinterlace method: Blend fields

Event switches:
* Maintain Aspect Ratio
* Reduce interlace flicker
* Smart resample or Force resample
