16:9 on normal 4:3 tv

Hi

Im making a dvd with music videos and one of them is 16:9. The original material I have is 16:9 letterbox. But I would like to change it so that when you watch it from 16:9 tv you see it as 16:9.

I managed to do this by changing the vegas project properties to 16:9 and by simply making the original 16:9 letterbox bigger so that it fits the 16:9 window properly.

It looks very good on 16:9 tv, but on normal 4:3 tv it looks too narrow (as it does on the vegas preview window). I would like it to be 16:9 letterbox on normal 4:3 tv and 16:9 on 16:9 tv.

Is there a better way to do this. I only have access to the original 16:9 letterbox material.

Thanks!

Sami

When you author the DVD there is a provision to tell the authoring program whether the material is 4:3 or 16:9. This information is then passed on to the DVD player, which then makes the decision on how to show the picture based on what you've told the DVD player about the TV set the DVD player is connected to.

Getting the right shape on the Vegas preview window is done by right-clicking on the preview window and checking the box "Simulate device aspect ratio." Your preview window will turn into a 16:9 shape (assuming that's what you've told Vegas in the Properties window).

Im using DVD architect 3.0 to author the videos. Do I change the project settings to Widescreen in DVD architect? And in this case will it show the 4:3 stuff properly? or is there a way to tell the program that this video is 4:3 and this one is 16:9?

I got the Simulate device aspect ratio button down, thanks!
