16:9 preview on TV from Vegas through ADVC100

Posted the below question a week back on the Canopus forum but got no replies. I take the chance posting here hoping someone can help out (I also emailed tech support tonight)

I just bought the ADVC100 with the purpose of using this as the converter from my NLE to TV preview when I do color correction. My footage is PAL 16:9 (shot, capture and edit) and the project output is 16:9. If I use my DVCam (don't want to since I don't want to put unnecessary stress and hours to the Cam) as the converter the TV automatically puts it self in 16:9 playback. When I use the ADVC I have to manually adjust my TV to 16:9 display. For testing purposes I also tried to caputure a 16:9 broadcast from my TV (using a scart with S-Video connector) but only got B&W 4:3 capture.

Doesn't the ADVC100 recognize the 16:9 signal (I have read the manual and searched the forum but couldn't find an answer), is my setup wrong (digital in through firewire, analog out through S-Video) or is my unit faulty and needs to be replaced?

In device manager (I'm running XP Pro) the ADVC100 shows as "AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player."

Any input is highly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply but I'm not quite sure that I understand. I have tried the same setup - Scart with S-Video connector from TV -> PDX10P and that capture, directly to the Cam, was in color. Replacing the PDX10P with the ADVC and connecting the ADVC with a laptop through firewire resulted in B&W capture. Isn't this setup S-Video in through scart, i.e. not out through scart? Neither my VCR nor my digital TV box have native S-video out so I can't test capturing from those without the Scart with S-Video connector. This is not a big deal since the test was just done to see if the 16:9 signal was recognized. I'll see if I can borrow an analog camera and connect that directly to the converter via S-video to test whether I'll get B&W or color.

You are right that people looked tall and thin. As such not a big (but annoying) problem when using the setup for color correction since I can manually adjust the TV-set to 16:9.

No, output was done directly to the S-Video in on the TV but it displayed in 4:3. When I connect my Cam to S-Video in the TV recognizes the 16:9 signal and puts it self in 16:9 display.
