16 bit windows subsystem error

I downlaoded Movie Studio 4.0 (build 42) from the internet and installed it but when I try to open the program a Windows pop-up says:

16 bit Windows Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Then it gives me a choice to 'close' or 'ignore' but no matter which one I choose the program freezes and the MS logo remains on the screen and I have to go to the task manager and end the process manually for it to go away. It is using 99% of the computer usage. Does anyone know how to fix this problem???

Try re-installing the program without uninstalling it. This will automatically start a repair utility that may fix things.

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the program completely (running a registry cleaner like Norton Utilities afterward ideally) and then re-install.

And if neither of those work, it could be some conflict with another program on your system -- especially if you have or have ever had another video editing program installed. (Have you?)

In any event, a good system clean-up would be a good idea. Run Norton Utilities or some other utility, like System Mechanic. And definitely run Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D (both free downloads) to make sure all the bugs are out of your system.

But all of this just assumes you're running Windows 98SE or newer, of course...
