16x9 problem

I am trying to capture 16x9 anamorphic footage from a DSR-20 deck into Vegas but it won't import with the proper aspect ratio. It is always "squished" vertically. I've tried different project setups but the result is always the same. What's the proper method for doing this? I've tried various other sources for the information but haven't been able to find it.

First, make sure your project is set to one of the widescreen presets.

16x9 footage recorded with a camcorder typically has the "16x9" flag set in the bitstream, however it sounds like your footage was recorded with an anamorphic lens and, of course, the tape doesn't have the wide-screen flag set. Easy enough to fix...

Right-click on the clip in Vegas, either on the timeline or in the "Project Media" tab, go to "Properties" and under the "Media" tab, change the pixel aspect ratio to "DV Widescreen."
