1GB MAX Movie Burn Size...what gives...???

hello...

[new to dvda]

I constructed a photo montage in vegas movie studio 8...about 45 minutes of still images, transitions, credis, etc.

I wanted the very best image quality for my movie as possible...so the first time I bounced the movie out of vegas was as an AVI. It was 5.5GB's in size, but i assumed that the mpeg2 compression would be better in dvda than in vegas.

dvda accepted the file as dragged onto the timeline...but when I went to 'Make DVD'...& the dialog popped up & I chose 'Burn' > 'Next'...there's a message that reads: 'the total size of all menus is larger that 1GB'...& it would not allow me to proceed.

so I went to optimize...optimized...& went back & it still would not let me proceed.

so I went back & bounced the movie out of vegas by choosing the 'Burn' option...which bounced it out as two files...an mpeg2 movie file an a.wav audio file...

...when I dragged the mpeg2 into dvda...(it also opened up the audio track...weird...but another discussion for another day)...& tried again to make the movie...it now tells me I am close to the maximum size of 1GB...but allowed me to make the movie.

I am unhappy with the quality...& want a larger mpeg2 burn. I even went to 'Fit To Disc', hoping it would allow me like a 4GB size mpeg2 movie w/ tons of quality to the images & transitions...but that wasn't allowed either.

how do I do this...???

why is a puny 1GB movie size all that's permitted...???...that doesn't make sense.

thanks,

If you drag a movie to the menu timeline, you are putting in the MENU, not the TITLE.
MENUS are limited to 1GB.

To import your movie as a TITLE, right-click on the menu icon in the left-hand explorer pane, and "Insert Media."

It's as simple as that. BTW, Vegas and DVDA use the same MPEG-2 encoder, but you have more control over it in Vegas.

Oh, and there are some really neat interactive tutorials that came with your program to get you started.

Best of luck.

did what u suggested,,,but it always added some sort of menu file to the tree in explorer, then when i burned...my video had only the stupid blue backdrop & the menu 1 title

to burn a video this way I had to physically delete the menu text & blue frames from the timline.

then i attempted to start a new project first; & ckose the single movie option. everything came up blank...& when I inserted media per your method...it went directly to the timeline...there were no menus...& the dvd burned correctly.

i'm still getting blue exclamation point error warnings, tho...prior to a successful burn (which is weird)

didn't see any interactive tutorials specific to what i did above, tho,,,it was all trial & error

thanks,

Ok, here is what your Menu tree in the left hand window will look like with the Media properly inserted. At this time we are focused on the MENU TIMELINE.
This assumes you are working in a Menu-Based Project.

Now, we have double-clicked on the Media, or Title, so now we are focused on the MEDIA TIMELINE.

Best of luck to you!

musicvid...

when I started from scratch by creating a NEW project...as a 'Single Movie' type...& selected the appropriate mpeg2 movie...mine didn't look like that at all...it looked like this:

no menus...just everything ready to go.

than when I attempt to burn, I get this:

no errors, mind you...but somethin's amis.

Hello Dox:

I think you will get the menu structure that Musicvid is shows if you open DVD-A and choose File/New. Then choose Menu Based. That's what I do when I want a series of menus, buttons, and so on.

Good luck!
