2 Newbie Questions

arem wrote on 7/24/2005, 8:13 AM
Hey, I've got my capture card working again. Now I've got two more questions:

1) One of the very few things I liked about Pinnacle Studio was that it split the video into clips in the album-whether it be from a time I set or automatically generated. Is there a way to do this in Vegas?

2) Does anyone know where I can get stock video that I can overlay on my clips? (Like fire, explosions, water, swooshy lines, etc.)

Thanks!

You can split in Vegas using a script, but there is no luminant break like Pinnacle has. You can also split scenes at capture, by enabling scene detection. (default setting)

High quality footage is available from Artbeats, but there are lots of free lower quality footage bits around the web. There are "swooshy lines" on the VASST site, www.prelinger.org has some free/creative commons footage, just google for "free stock footage."

Thanks Spot.

Got my clips all split up nicely, and I found some stock footage. But I couldn't find my swooshy lines on VASST. Is there an official name for that effect?

Thanks again!

BTW, did you mean prelinger.com?

Look in the Vegas Gateway page, (under Free Resources) and you'll find the free MPEG stuff there.
I might be misunderstanding what you want, as the files there are free MPEG backgrounds with lines for DVD Architect and similar.

I think you sort of understand...

I'm think about like either in DVD Architect or Vegas have lines sort of woosh around on the screen. (Like in "What I Like About You" the intro to the show how it has like curvey lines moving around). Something like that...

For "swooshie lines" try the Sony Vision Series

Look up top for Content>Vision Series

http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/visionseries/default.asp

As for Spot's reference to Prelinger, try this link:

http://www.archive.org/details/prelinger

it has a ton of old fiims that are public domain (some rights reserved)

Did a search for "background" on VASST site and found this:

A Project for Vegas 4.0
Psychedelic VEG graphics

http://www.vasst.com/resource.aspx?id=d41c5eeb-9703-4428-8206-9627c89b7f01

a zip w several veg files with "swooshy lines"
They look pretty cool!

Arem, a lot of the gang here cut their teeth on Studio software. This Vegas stuff is substantially more sophisticated and infinitely more stable. I think you'll really like the software.

I did my first major project (2 hour documentary) on Studio7. I've been with Vegas since version 3. People here are real nice, too. I could probably ask a question about income taxes and would get a half-dozen answers within an hour or two.

Thanks everyone! I'll download some of these later. Since I'm like the only person left in the world with a dial-up internet connection, anything over 10mb is a huge pain.

Riredale, I know what you mean. When I bought Vegas, I knew it was more advanced, but I had not idea that it was in an entirely different class of programs. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing the two programs have in common is a play button. I'm learning fast, and can't wait for my next big project. Should come around mid-August. Summer is usually low key for videos for me, so that's why I bought my new software in Summer.

I really appreciate everyone's responses!
