24 bit recording

grumpeedad wrote on 6/20/2003, 2:13 PM
When I try to record a track at 24 bit, I get an error that my hardware does not support config. I am using Vegas vs.1 and have an M Audio delta 44 sound card.
I select 24bit and 41,000hz in preferences, arm the track, hit record and the error pops up. I click OK and it starts recording. when I look at the properties of the wav file. It says it's 32bit. ????
The card seems to be configured right.
Any ideas?

Yes,Geof,Vegas 1.0 still exists! ;)

I too had the same problem, with version 1.0b running on windows 2000 if I installed the WDM drivers (..all of them, including the newest and/or the latest beta's) for my M-Audio Audiophile 2496,even after Peter from SoFo gave me a tip to solve it.

The only thing that worked for me was to install the NT4 drivers for this card...24bit/96KHz functionality works fine with it .

You can (re-)read this thread if you want where I stated this problem with the WDM drivers, and also a little bug if you use the NT4 drivers...

I discovered another thing with those NT4 drivers ..sometimes you get a blue screen
(STOP:...LOCKED_PAGES..) but mostly "device is allready opened by an other application" - but when I set the Multitrack Driver Devices on "Independent" instead of
"Single and in Sync" in the M-Audio Delta Control Panel - Hardware Settings ,the blue screens and the "device is allready opened..." scenario disappeared.

This is the thread:
http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=177421&Page=0

.I also describe this "bug"in it which can be easily avoided.

Hope this helps...

Does Vegas 1 know anything about WDM drivers or 24 bit files ?!!!!!

Even Vegas 4.0 doesn't know anything about WDM drivers. Vegas's Classic Wave Drivers are Wave MME drivers, which are emulated through WDM.

Vegas 1.0 does support 24 bit, but has some problems with Kmixer that can prevent 24 bit from working correctly.
