24p render time?

Are conversions from 29.97fps to 24p supposed to take a long time to render?

I'm currently rendering a 16:9 project with no effects or dissolves, etc...just straight cuts. There are three video layers for three different camera angles. Anyway...the render time shoots up to 18 hours and keeps going...is that normal?

Just so you know...my computer isn't all that fast.

thanks

Just a guess.... there is your answer. It might also be helpful if you disclosed just how "not fast" your computer is.

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1.67 GHz, 512MB RAM

Kind of embarassing...but it still gets the job done..slowly..but surely...

by the way...the video I'm rendering is 1hr and 13minutes....

thanks

unfortunately, the reason for the long render times is due to your PC specs, which are near the minimum for running vegas IMO...if you could upgrade your CPU and up your RAM to at least 1 gig it would help some....if you add any FX you are looking at a BIG increase in render time as well...

If you upgrade your hardware, you might see render speeds improve 2X.

2- It might be that particular effects are slowing things down in Vegas.
On my machine I don't think 60i to 24p conversion would take 9/18 hours for 1hr:13 of footage. I haven't tested closely though.

You might want to look at why things are slow in Vegas.
