24p uncompressed captures from standard DV material

I was wondering, is there a way to bring in all the pre-edited 29.97 footage as 24p, then render the final 24p edit as 29.97?

I read a tutorial on matching DV material for intercutting with film material. The tutorial gave a procedure to convert your edited DV to 24p, add additional "film effects" then convert back to DV 29.97.

I noticed that one of the steps in the tutorial requires an event-level setting (resample: ON), which would be a nightmare to set on each clip of your edit. It's easier (but requires an extra render) to render an intermediate AVI file, then you have only one event to set.

But, wouldn't capturing your DV material at 24p aleviate the imtermediate step of having to render the 29.97 edit first? It would be:
1) 24p edit
2) 29.97 render

Instead of:
1) 29.97 edit, and render.
2) 24p render
3) 29.97 re-render.

I assume though that you would loose the ability to use the external monitor while editing 24p material, and the 24p uncompressed captured files would be larger.

Also, if someone were able to work in this fashion, would adding effects and titles during the 24p edit make a difference when rendering back to 29.97? Would those effects and titles be of the same 24p "look" as the initially captured material?

That all sounds right.

If your render is to 29.97, Event, Track and Project FX will be at that frame/field rate. Media FX will be at the media's framerate (24p in this case).

To have the FX all @ 24p, render to 24p, then output that file to 29.97 and Vegas will do 2:3 pulldown on the FX too.

Also, when I say "24p" I mean 23.976 if you're working with NTSC video @ 29.97.

What do you mean by media fx as opposed to the others you mentioned?

EW, depending on which button you click, you can apply effects either individually to events, to an entire track (and thereby to all the events in that track), or to the entire project (and thereby to all tracks and events all at once).

Does this mean that if I render the 24p edit directly to 29.97, only the Media FX will actually render as if they were 24p? If I understand correctly, if I use any effects other than Media FX, I'll need to do an additional 24p render before my final 29.97 render, if I want the FX to look "24p". Is that correct?

It appears that I have the option of creating (some) FX in my final render as 24p, and some as if they were NTSC interlaced. Is there any disadvantage to having titles and FX rendered to 24p?

All the FX can be applied in any of those places, depending on what you're trying to acheive. You'll want to be able to apply FX to more than just the media, I expect, so you'll need an intermediate 24p render to run the FX at 24p.
