2D images, text and video easy to manipulate?

I have read through the manual and "New in 5" docs. But obviously sometimes it's hard to understand simple things unless you're a user : )

If I want to create a video where a jpeg image for example is placed in the scene and can move in, or dissolve in, fade out, etc. against a jpeg or video background. Can that be done?

I would like to do 2D manipulations like having a few sentences of text fade in and out while stills also fade in and out or move around, etc.

Can Vegas accept outside alpha channels from something like Photoshop? Or must they be generated inside Vegas?

Just trying to figure out if Vegas can handle composition and animation or if I would still need something like AfterEffects?

Thank you for any input!

Let's see, i believe the answers to your questions in order would be: Yes, Yes, No, and Yes/No. ;)

Everything you mention can be handled by Vegas or in Vegas. You may also integrate output from just about any other graphics software if you wish, or use Vegas' output in other software. There are many things that can be handled by other software better than Vegas, but Vegas most likely does the majority of what you want quite well.
