2nd Vegas4 opens when I use VidCap: ?normal?

When I use Video Capture (via Media Pool), I noticed a second instance of Vegas 4 opens in my task bar when I click "ok" on the "verify tape name" window that opens every time you use VidCap. Why? It doesn't seem normal to me since you gotta close every other program when you capture; nonsense!
Is there a solution for this?

A second window does open because the vid capture is a "separate" program that runs...so that part is normal. Unless I'm reading you wrong...it's not actually another instance of VV4 that opens.

Plus...who says you have to close every other program when you capture?

Depending on what type of system you are running I wouldn't suggest trying to do anything else but capture, but having the vidcap window open and VV is normal.

Capture/print to tape runs as a seperate applet. While it can be run from the camera icon inside Vegas from the Media Pool, you can if you like, set up a seperate shortcut on your desktop and just run capture/print to tape by itself. Look for a SEPERATE application called vidcap40.exe in your Sonic Foundry folder under program files in your root directory if you let Vegas install where it normally does.

Once you find the icon, (use Windows Explorer) right click, create a shortcut and either drag it to your desktop or copy and paste the icon if you like on your desktop and it will start up by itself when you click it.

Yes, but I get VidCap plus 2x VV. If I go in the bar and click on these, they will both open as 2 different instances. This didn't happen with VV3, that's why I'm asking. And if I just "cancel" the "verify tape name" window, and just this window (not the whole VidCap) this doesn't happen; just one V4 running plus VidCap... Question: can I put a *VidCap* icon in my quick launch bar? Mmm, I'm gonna check this out since I'd probably use it rather than opening the whole circus...

Concerning running other programs while capturing,I just meant it is not reccommended to run other applications while capturing if you want to avoid dropped frames, glitches,etc... but I figure it depends of your system. Mine is becoming more and more obsolete but is still good for a little while so I try not to "challenge" it too much ;D!
