2q's - Mono sound & NTSC DV format

Hi All,

I was wondering if there is a way to take mono audio track (old camcorder only had mono) and copy it to the other side say duplicate the left to the right?

When I finish my projects and want to use a different encoder to make it MPEG 2, do I save the project to file as a NTSC DV format? This is what I think is correct from what I've read just want to make sure.

Thanks for your help,
Dave

Staying completely within Movie Studio/VideoFactory, you could do this to convert to mono: Make movie / Save it to your hard drive / Advanced Render / Type: Wave / Custom / Channels: Mono. This will create a new .wav file with a mono sound track. Delete the original audio from the project and replace it with this new .wav file.

If the external encoder will read DV files then yes, this would probably be the best format to use. Some encoders may not be able to open DV files so you might have to use uncompressed AVI instead. You would need lots of hard drive space for this though.

Thanks for the advice on the sound.

As far as the NTSC DV format. I'm trying to do my own tests on the different encoders out there, CinemaCraft Basic, TMPGenc, and Mainconcept. Do you know if these accept that format? I'm still really new to all of this so I'm trying to do all the research I can to get my "workflow" down before I start going through the old home movies to switch them to DVD. Then hopefully use the same workflow with the new vids using the digital camcorder.

So far I've picked VirtualDub to split the captures and Sony Screenblast for the editor. I'm still looking at encoders and then the DVD author.

Thanks again,
Dave

please post your results after you complete your tests of encoders.
