3...2...1... Countdown clip

dsanders wrote on 11/18/2002, 4:22 PM
Does anybody know where I can get one of the 3... 2... 1... countdown video clips like they show before a movie. I'm also looking for any kind of clip that that they might show before a movie - i.e., "Now featuring...", "Quite please..." That sort of stuff. I'm looking for an old time movie look, but anything would be helpful.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Don Sanders

I think there's a tutorial on how to make one of those countdown clips, it looked pretty easy. I think that was on the Creative Cow site???
I have a couple different countdowns I copied off my MGI Video Wave content CD, one of which is the "old" film style look....complete with scratches and markings on the film. Know anyone who has Video wave?

I have that old clip, and a modern one. Drop your eddress and I'll eMail it to you.

I'm not sure about the copyright on this, so use with caution. I think that it is OK, or I wouldn't be offering it.

Hi Don,

You can also make your own Academy-style leader/countdown in Vegas...

I made one using a couple of circles and crosshairs, the clock-wipe and the text generator.

For more movie-house style concepts check out Turner Classic Movies... great promos and trailers, and of course great movies. A good website too, for movie-art themes and styles.

Slowly, but surely. I'm between classes, and it may take a while. I'm SUPPOSED to me making a test to give my students, and you can see what is catching my interest, instead. I'll get it done today, I think.

Again, a reminder, I don't know about the copyright issue with this, so I am sharing IDEAS with you. Use with caution, please.

Assume you have seen this one:

Also, there's a good "old" one on the Video Factory content cd.

I threw this together in a few minutes using a couple of drawings i made in Micrografx Windows Draw and the text media generator in Vegas. I used the clock wipe transition to change the background from each second to the next, then used a film effects filter to make it look old.

Feel free to make whatever use of it you wish. It's WMV, 3Mbps two-pass encoding, 640x480 30fps, about 600Kb.

Almost forgot about the VFactory CD. I'll check that out.

Nice job C.Works!

Thanks for the TCM tip Marty!

I used one of the countdowns recently. Anticipating my(large group of friends)audience's reaction to the included countdown....Yep! they started counting down out loud togehter. .........NINE........EIGHT....At about 6, I sped(time compressed)up the rest of the countdown. 654321 bam! start the damn movie.
They got a kick out of it. I swear I've seen this done before....(not my original thinking?)

Definitley picking up speed in the forums as well!

Here's an old countdown, apparently free to the public:

There's lots of cool old film footage you can grab from the Internet Archive Moving Images site. http://webdev.archive.org/movies/movies.php

Enjoy!

Very nice countdown, Chien, but don't forget.....at the start of "2" you get the "beep" and black. There's only a frame of "2". There is no 1 or 0.

...yeah, I know...everyone's a critic!
Chienworks wrote on 11/20/2002, 1:40 PM
Chris: correct. However, you can do that yourself when you drop it into your project. For those who don't want that, they can do whatever modifications they do want. :)
