3 New Vegas 5 Veggie files available

I am totally impressed with the new version of Vegas and have created three new veggie files to share some of the stuff I’ve been doing with it. (if I didn’t have to actually work for a living there would be more). ;-)

The following are some Vegas 5 veggie files available on my web site (and soon the Sundance site) that I created to see how the new features like 3D Motion and Masks works. As I said, was very impressed with the new version of Vegas and hopefully you will be to:

All three are available for download on my Vegas Veggies web page.

Flying 3D Video

Videos or titles can be used to fly in from the left and right as they alternate. Good for opening credits or video overview of the scenes to come. Uses 3D Motion to tilt videos in space.

Wanted Dead or Alive

Simulated gunshots blow this wanted poster away from the underlying video. I used the new mask function for gunshot holes and 3D Motion with an offset center to swing the poster and add recoil to the gunshots. Add you favorite gunshot sounds at the markers to add to the realism. The ZIP adds sound FX which really brings it to life. You gotta hear it with the sound FX.

Ocean Waves and Clouds with Title

This is a remake of my original that used PluginPac 3D. It now uses native Vegas 5 3D Motion. I also added some title FX just to give you a reason to want to download it again. ;-) The example shows the usage of a bump map noise texture and 3D Motion to make an ocean scene complete with moving waves. The clouds were done with two layers of noise to make them seem more realistic. The title glides over the water using 3D motion as well. The new Mask function is used to keep the displacement map within the water boundary.

I’ve submitted these to the Sundance site but have to wait for Spot to get back from NAB before they will show up. I have a few more ideas, I just need to find the time. Hope you enjoy these.

Thanks guys, the sounds FX really help to sell the gag. (Isn’t this always the case) Notice how the poster recoils back when the bullet hole is formed. I tried to make the motion come from the hole. Do a RAM preview (or render it) to really see the effect smoothly because it’s subtle. I was also impressed with how the 2D shadow from the parent track really gives the bullet holes depth. All you need is a puff of smoke from particleIllusion and you’re all set. (I love particleIllusion too)

The cool thing about the Bezier masks is that you can control whether they’re negative or positive, feather the edges, and control the opacity. It’s just an outstanding little function. It’s the ultimate garbage matte maker.

Don’t forget to SAVE the Gun Shot keyframes!!! On my PC I saved them as Gun Shot 1, Gun Shot 2, and Gun Shot 3. That allows you to add them to ANY event later on.

These are also available now on the Sundance Media Group web site except for the Wanted with Sound files which is in a zip file on my site. I added Wanted (Dead or Alive) in the contest they’re having.

Nice work John. I didn't know you could save bezier masks...very handy. Do we actually know what element of Vegas 5 the contest is supposed to highlight? The title still has a bunch of ????.
JohnnyRoy wrote on 4/22/2004, 9:52 AM
Thanks, I assume the ??? will change to a feature list now that Vegas 5 is released. I just assumed that 3D Motion and Bezier masks would probably be in that list so I thought I would start the thing rolling. ;-)

I just added another veggie file to my site and uploaded it to Sundance.

3D Stargate

This veggie file uses 3D Motion to simulate text moving into and out of a Stargate. It shows how to composite 3D so that it can move behind other layers

V5_3D_Stargate.veg is now on my Veggie page.

EDIT: added reference to new veggie page.

Sorry JR, "V5_3D_Stargate.veg" is coming down as "alpha_3d.veg"?

When I open in V5 it doesn't "appear" to be anything like you quote . . just thought you'd need to know. I've now downloaded twice - same result.

Best regards,

Grazie,

Hmmm... If you’re downloading it from my site, I don’t even have a file called "alpha_3d.veg" on my site so cannot be coming from there. I also checked the Sundance site and I got my file back. You can see the correct file in the URL. It may be something to do with your browser. I would suggest you delete your browser cache and try again. I can email it to you directly if you want. Just send me an email on my hotmail account (userid is john_rofrano) and I’ll reply with the file.

Here is the URL to the file on my site:
