I notice that when you click optimize & select 'project video format' you
have your inputted video file size displayed which in my case this is PAL, but if I then click to NTSC the file size is considerably larger. In fact it jumped from 1021MB to 1866MB. This is a huge jump in file size. Is this normal?

Even though my audio is only AC3 stereo I clicked AC3 5.1 surround to see if anything would display & was surprised that it did. The suggested rendering file size increases a little. Does this mean that some of the front audio is also routed to the rear speakers if I tried to render the project this
way?

When using DVDA to render I didn't see any place for settings like which
field is first etc. Do you only get these options in Vegas or did I miss
them?

Not farmiliar w/ PAL, so not sure as to why PAL -> NTSC creates such a large file jump. It undoubtedly has to be related to either resolution, frames per second, or bit rate increasing w/ NTSC.

As to your AC3 question though, I think you see the file sise jump, but only slightly because you created 4 additional audio tracks, but they are empty. Since 5.1 encoding has 6 completely seperated chanels (as opposed to matrix audio in the much older Dolby ProLogic format) I doubt very much that the signal from Front Left and Front Right are coppied anywhere else. If you placed any audio in the additional 4 tracks, you would probaly notice a much larger difference.

The advanced render options you refer to in the last question are only available when you render from Vegas.
