3 questions about my first DVD

I have just purchased a DVD burner, Pioneer A107. I had a project in DVDA to burn. Since it was a long project I rendered it in DVDA after setting the slider to the maximum setting for a DVD of 4.7 GB.

I took the resulting files into Nero 6 where I was informed that the files weren't compliant & that if I were to proceeded they would likely fail. Since I was using a R/W disk I told it to go ahead anyway. The DVD plays perfectly in both of my DVD players although on one machine the first thing you see is the screen with 2 buttons - 1. to play entire video & the other to take you to the scene selection menu & in the other DVD the film just starts at the beginning & I found out that I could reach the scene selection menu from the remote.

Three questions. Why would report errors since I thought that DVDA only made compliant files? Why do the same disk play differantly on 2 different machines? And why if I set the file size to the maximum of 4.7 GB does Windows Explorer report when you right click on the file for properties that the file size is only 4.2 GB?

This is a known NERO problem

Different levels of compatibility with the disc you used.

"4.7"GB listed on the cover is really only 4.37 Gig in computer language. The companies use base 10 in their capacity listings instead of base 2.

So, you were only 170Meg short of a full disc - NOT 500Meg.
