32K Audio Captured

I'm using VV 3.0 on a Dell P4 1.6Ghz computer with 512MB RAM and Windows XP Professional.

When I capture video from my Canon XL1s using the Vegas Video Capture utility, my audio comes in at 32Khz instead of 48Khz (which my camera is recording).

Another capture utility I have loaded on my computer, ScenalyzerLive Demo, captures the audio correctly at 48Khz.

I can't seem to find a setting in the Vegas Video Capture utlility to change the setting from 32K to 48K.

My computer has two audio cards installed:

1 - the Dell mother board audio card which is the SoundMAX Digital Audio card
2 - Echo Audio Darla24 audio card

The Vegas Video Capture utility lists both cards in the Audio menu, but greys them out so I can't choose between the two, and it has selected the Darla24 card as its default.

Is there some way I can change 32K to 48K?

Thanks,
Ron

Are you capturing through firewire? If so, then your sound cards aren't even being used for the capture.

It's been reported elsewhere in this forum that sometimes capturing from Canon DV cameras erroneously reports 32K instead of 48K, but the file itself is 48K anyway. Search for "32K" to find out more details about this problem.

Chienworks,

Thanks for the reply.

I am capturing video via firewire (1394). My only indication that the files captured are 32K are when I point to the file in the Explorer tab of Vegas Video and it shows me a summary of the file information at the bottom of the screen. Sound Forge 5.0 does the same thing - it says the file is 32K. Aside from those programs telling me the file is 32K (but may be wrong as you indicated), is there a way for me to tell if the file is really 48K and the header information may just be incorrect?

I searched the Vegas forum here for 32K but only found a few hits. None mentioning this problem. I'll continue to look further and hope to find an answer. I personally believe there is a problem with the Vegas Video Capture utility just because the other capture program I tried works perfectly in it's demo mode. I'm recluctant to purchase that utility though because I would really like to use the Vegas Capture utility since I already own it.

Thanks,
Ron

Ok, I did a search for 32K on the entire list of forums and did find some information about this in the Video Factory forum. Sounds like someone else had, or is having, the same problem. However, someone mentioned on that thread to look in the Media Pool and view details of the files to determine if they are at 32K, and my files show up at 32K in that view.
