360 video render settings for use in VR Vive/Oculus

Quadrixx wrote on 6/20/2018, 12:56 PM

i'm already days past trying to find the best video render settings for a 360 video to be used with VR machines running Vive and or Oculus , sources are bunch of stills , mixed and blended - equirectangular frames at 8000 x 4000 pixels ( so 2:1 of course )

for now i'm rendering at hevc encoding ( max seems to be 3840x1920 )
best test was on VBR 40.000.000 - 80.000.000

i would like to render higher at least 4096 x 2160 but this codec is not allowing bigger frame ??
audio cannot be higher then 192 bitrate ?? i don't understand ... ;(

also would love to get my GPU assist more in rendering ( now it's only at 20% max )

please help,
George

ps: some settings and codecs just render black screen ...

another thing , it's a very simple video mix , 1 track for video , 1 track for audio , a dozen of jpg images 8000 x 4000 , blended into eachother using the simplest basic transition fade in/out
( dragged them onto eachother partly )

during even best results in rendering , still some images come in places they weren't put ... mostly during these crossovers, don't know what i'm doing wrong ( tried CBR to solve but no use )

FWIW: I've been rendering 3840x3840 VR videos using x264VFW. (I did one 4320x4320 with it too...once...) No GPU acceleration with this codec.

Alternatively, you can use the new GPU assisted AVC codec to render the left and right views separately and combine them using FFMPEG. This didn't seem to save me any time, though.

Thx but , what i was actually asking was , since i already know the pixel dimensions working for 360 equirectangular , monoscopic view ( 3840x1920 )

what are the best settings are for VBR or CBR and how high ?
also which is the best codec ? something better or equal to HEVC since it seems i can't adjust the custom frame size in HEVC higher then 3840 even when project settings are on 4096 x 2048 ...

the video is exactly synced in the software with the audio but after rendering the results are not exactly everywhere perfect ...

btw i'm talking about Vegas 15
and rendering for VIVE and Oculus using Simple VR video player ...
