360 Video using Vegas 16 and Yi 360 VR 5.7K camera

shot this using the Yi 360 VR 5.7K cam and edited in Vegas 16. I used the scene rotation plugin to correct view and some marginal color correction, sharpening and simple title. Rendered in 4k as that is our cap. I found that when adding the scene rotation plugin it makes a black hole at top and bottom of the video. Looks pretty good so far. Looking to do some more experimenting tonight. Vegas handles the 5.7k video pretty easy on the timeline and the render wasn't mind numbing so thats a plus.

Check your project and render settings. A 360 view video should be rendered at a 2:1 aspect ratio.

The Yi records at 5760x2880, so the appropriate "4K" project and render sizes should be 3840x1920.

The default image size for Vegas 4K render settings is 3840x2160 so will add 120 pixel black bars above and below your image. This is what is causing the black circles when viewed in 360.

To fix this, you need to specify a custom frame size:

Why not rendering to 4096 x 2048?

That should work too, d'oh!

I did a 4096x2048 top/bottom full 3D 360 project...once...it really seemed to bog down the preview and renders. Probably V14 or SV13.

So any benefit to rendering 4096 x 2048. Will it look better on youtube?

Yes, if you have a way to view the higher resolution.
