3D animated text in Vegas

MovieExpert wrote on 12/8/2007, 2:38 PM
I have produced 3D animated text using Wax utility. The background is transparent. The result is a short avi file. I drop this avi onto the text track of Vegas Studio so that this animated 3D text will be superposed on the original video clip. However whatever I do Vegas does not recognize the transparent background of the avi. I tried to do the same thing using a series of tga images, but the result is the same. Surely there are users among the forum members who have encountered this kind of problem. Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For some reason Vegas imports the media with the alpha channel turned off. You have to turn it on. Riht click the media>properties>media tab>Alpha channel>Premultiplied or premultiplied (dirtY)

I always make the animated titles over a blue or green background and then use the FX Chroma keyer to key it out that color. Rt click the title clip and choose Media FX.

Thanks a lot for the advice, but I could not experiment until now because now I am having a problem with Wax. Wax refuses to render an avi file saying that the codecs require frame sizes as multiples of 4. I tried various frame sizes in vain. I am still searching for the solution. Any advice in this area is also welcome.

I managed to sort out the Wax problem. I tried to change the properties but it does not work. So I produced text with blue background, animated it and used the FX chrome filter. It works and the background becomes transparent. However there is a problem. The overlayed scene becomes a part of the animation and moves together with the text. In my case it is turning 360 degrees around the vertical axis. How can I solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

How strange.

Do you have an animated text avi on the Video Overlay track and your separate background avi on the Video track?

My avi containing the 3D animated text on blue background is on the video overlay track. On the normal video track is the original video clip on which I am working.

I think I understood why vegas is behaving like that. But I have not found a way of solving the problem. The text in overlay file turns 360 degrees around the y axis. This is a 3d motion. Now I can see through the overlay the video clip below. As the overlay turns behind there is the black coloured track background. When this track background is visible it blocks the sight to the track below. Now I wonder is there a way of making the track background transparent.
