3D nested project proxy files

How are proxy files handled in this 3D nested project example?

Left and right views (3840x1920) are composited in separate Vegas projects, Left.veg and Right.veg, then combined into a 3D subclip in a final project.

If I let Vegas create the proxy files I end up with Left.veg.sfap0, Left.veg.sfvp0, Right.veg.sfap0, and Right.veg.sfvp0.

The audio proxies aren't too bad, but the video proxy files are big and take a long time to create.

For grins, in a fresh project directory, I added a text title in Right.veg, rendered a 1440x720 proxy, renamed it Right.veg.sfvp0, and placed it in the project directory. When I added Left.veg and Right.veg to the timelines, the proxy I created was used and the title showed in the preview window. But after combining them into a 3D subclip the text disappeared.

It doesn't appear the proxy files are used for the 3D subclips. Is this true?

I can easily create proxy files for the left and right view project files, but don't want to bother if Vegas won't use them.

I have not found a way to use real nested projects in 3D. Are there any examples?

If I try to insert an existing 3D project, only one stream - the left one - will be recognized. All this without proxies.

I intended to provide an example with my original post, but ran out of time. I'll look back at that tomorrow.

I am editing 3D 360 VR footage. I composite the original left and right views together to hide my tripod. I used to render the resulting composite left and right clips to intermediate mp4 files, which I combine into 3D sub-clips in the final project.

What I did with my latest video was to load the compositing projects for each left and right clip into my final project and combine them into 3D subclips. I had hoped I could use small proxy files at the compositing (tripod hiding) stage, do the final edit, then replace the proxies with the original clips prior to rendering. Unfortunately, Vegas doesn't seem to be able to do this. In the end, I simply worked with the full sized---3840x1920---clips and didn't have any problems. The render, though was pretty long...about 6 hours for a 4 minute video, using x265VFW to get top/bottom full 3D.
