Often in Design/Art, it is what is left out that makes the difference.

As you say, there is a lexicon of expectations around certain design - viz the Vegas sign.

Also our 3-D, IMHO, only has relevance to the plano surfaces of video. It can't be used to extrude text, nor place an individual in 3-D space. As such it has no "thickness". So we are left with making do with manipulating these plano video surfaces. Having said that, when it comes to green screen or masking out areas and substituting a 3-D video then this option is useful. Other options are making 3-D stills/photos reviews. Having these slice and intersect makes for engaging video. Also try using it with any of our text generators.

Our 3-D has its place. How often you use it depends on the market you deliver to.

Right!, I forgot to mention that there is no importing a 3D model, so everything is flat! They should call it "3 plane motion".

It is usually called 2 1/2D.

More than 2D, less than 3D.

Quite useful still.

No, I disagree. It is called 3-D TRACK Motion. It is solely relating to the Track. And the Track is, by its very nature, only 2-D.

When I use vegas, I'm usually toying with 2 1/2D ;-) , studying, using scripts for 2 1/2D placement of "objects".

Here I used 3d Track Motion for an intro sequence to a video that covered 83 years of the person's life. The "documentary" was requested by their family.

Very nice. That's a good example. Very creative.

3d track motion for a birthday "card":

for neat text effects:

It has plenty of uses & is the next best thing to putting your videos on a plane in a 3d app.

Gotta say, complaining it's not allowing everything a 3d app does is kind of silly... What does premiere do? nothing, get AE. We've got a few up on that right there.

I think "yippe it's text" illustrates the kind of creative thinking needed. I guess I'm in a rush to absorb too much because the timer is running out on my trial.

I like that Vegas gives us plenty of "raw tools", I just need more time to ponder the possibilities.

AE doesn't have more than 2 1/2D either.

There are a few AE plug-ins that can fake 3D, with major limitations of course.

Hey Jeremy - I think your picture fly through is amazing! Did it take long to put together? Is it difficult to slide some pics behind and others in front? Well done!

Thanks Al,

The hardest part was getting the motion how I wanted it to be. Getting the pictures to "hang" in the 3D space was easy as I used a Veg file shared from FrigidNDEditing and changed what I wanted to suit my purposes about placement.

I shared the veg file I made somewhere on this forum in the past- I'm sure if you did a search you could find it. I believe Dave (FrigidNDEditing) shared his original veg file on Vasst.com

Yeah, I noticed it's super smooth. I think that's what makes it stand out so much.

Take a look here, this may help you. Feel free to use the veg file how you wish.
