i just want to confirm before i start spending any money, opening boxes, adding cards, that vegas is going to see / give me the option of using a third (for preview) monitor from a second installed hdmi enabled card?

if so, any recommendations for a cheap card to use in conjunction with the nvidia 8500 i use at present?

Yes.

Ok, the real answer..
I do plan to add two more LCD monitors to my editing workstations, but the cost of four more LCDs trump the cost of any display adapter card.

What expansion slot do you have available? I haven't seen a motherboard with more than one AGP or PCI-E slot, so you're left with a PCI option, and I don't think there's any HDMI card for the PCI bus.

You can find a PCI card with two DVI ports, but they are getting harder to find.
