With the titling tools in Moviestudio and a little creative inspiration you should be able to make really interesting titles. Here are two examples, I made with Vegas Movie Studio.

Thanks for the reply, those are very nice but it isn't titles like that I'm after (and of course I should have been more specific!). In my videos I do many reviews/howto's and showcases, where I very often need to put a description or something similar in the video. I feel that what MS is offering is really only plain 'text', no nice layouts for that. There's a few variants but to me they are just too animated and frankly quite useless, so that why I wonder if there's any 3rd party offering something with a touch more of... variation?

Could you give some examples (pictures) of what you're looking for?

Markk655 wrote on 3/1/2017, 9:11 PM

There are many! Note that VMS Suite includes NB Titler Express (you can upgrade). You can download a trial from their website (there is a cost for the full version). You can also use Hitfilm Express (free!). Just a few options. Having said all that, with all of the titlers, you are only limited by your imagination.

3POINT wrote on 3/2/2017, 2:14 AM

Besides 3D titles and saving/recalling animated title templates, NB Titler has nothing more to offer than what is already possible directly on the timeline of VMS. Just with the standard Titler and with aid of Transitions/FX/Mediagenerators/Trackmotion/PanCrop/Textures etc and of course your imagination.

Well, here's a simple example from one video I edited in Corel VideoStudio, just little bit more than just white text..

.

3POINT wrote on 3/3/2017, 4:54 AM

That's also quite easy to make in VMS, just use an extra track below the text track with the coloured background,  generated with mediagenerators and resize it with the trackmotion of that track. Or make a text with coloured background in the text generator and resize it by cropping it with the pan/crop tool.

Well, I do appriciate you taking the time to answer and giving creative tips... but it's still not as easy to pick a ready nice looking template for it. Tried with colored background, cropping but that really affects both the text and color box so to speak. Might be me to inexperienced too of course. :)

Will provide you with more info later this day. I'm not sure if it's possible to embed a VMS projectfile (.vf) in this thread.

If waiting is taking you too long, you're able to join our Dutch forum for free and download already a few VMS title examples from 3POINT. Here.

3POINT wrote on 3/3/2017, 10:17 AM

Probably not possible to embed a VMS projectfile here, hope picture makes it clear:

By the way, such titles are called "lowerthirds"!

That's just a nice way of saying NB TitlerEX is not included in the program.. Big mistake in my opinion.. Many people will not be happy with this move.

Markk655 wrote on 3/3/2017, 4:51 PM

Huh? NB Titler EX is included. See product comparison for where it is included - suite only.

I just purchased the 14 Suite version and the serial numbers do not allow any TitlerEX to work without a New Blue logo on everything you do.. That means it does not come with it.. But it should..

See this thread.

Vidguy wrote on 3/5/2017, 9:32 AM

I found another company that is selling a very affordable 3D Title and text software, This is a great alternative to TitlerEX or anything else NewBlue sells.. You can download a trial version you will find they are very nice.. and quality programs..

Also Blufftitler is a good and affordable alternative for an external titler. https://www.outerspace-software.com/blufftitler

Vidguy wrote on 3/5/2017, 11:16 AM

I knew about that one.. I might reconsider that one.. looks like alot of potential with that one. Thanks 3Point.

I did some tests with that one.. Although it looks nice when working with it.. When you render everything has a blurry look to it.. The search goes on.. :-)

3POINT wrote on 3/5/2017, 1:47 PM

Probably wrong output resolution.

Vidguy wrote on 3/5/2017, 2:07 PM

Tried all possibilities..

3POINT wrote on 3/5/2017, 2:56 PM

I just tried the demo, project resolution is standard 720p, but can be set up to UHD 8k. Output as mp4 video, example here is 1080p50, perfect result I would say:.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions - appriciated! Also thanks for providing me with the correct term - lower thirds - that is really helpful!

3POINT wrote on 3/6/2017, 4:48 AM

Have you been able to make the lower third in VMS14 as described?
