3rd Sony BMG CD "Rootkit" found

ExtremeDRM has an article about yet another and very different threat discovered by EFF:

If a child picked up a virus or worm that modified .EXE files, the [access control protected] PC would be safe until the parent accessed the PC as an administrator, and inserted a Sony CD.

Sigh.

Well, at least all the starving artists signed to Sony's label are getting their money now. What a relief.

Well.Mr. Lafferty, how do you suggest songwriters and recordng artists should make a living? Singing on street corners perhaps?

I am against record companies forcing spam or unaskedforware on customers' machines. But I am for their right to collect payment and to protect themselves from illegal copying and distribution of their products.

Your coupling of Sony BMG's cockup with artists' livelihoods sems - at best - uninformed.

Tor: I think you got this wrong. Lafferty was supporting an artist right to use whatever means to get their rightful royalty.

I, for one, will not buy another Sony/BMG CD until I'm confident that it has no virus installed on it.
