4.0d

Hello Sonic EPM

You mentioned recently on a post that 4.0d may be available this week, next week at the latest.

Can you tell us what the d rev will do?

And while your at it why do you use the letter scheme?

Most people use 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 etc or 4.1, 4.2

The content of these upgrades is usually more than a .0.0 upgrade, can't help but feel you are under selling yourselves.

Will there be a 5.0, EPM?
Nat wrote on 8/9/2003, 12:26 PM
Why wouldn't there be a 5 ?

Who knows, maybe Sony will change it from Vegas 5 for Vegas Pro (just to remind people pro's can use it to, like Premiere! :) )

I like that. So many people shop by name brand that is is rediculous. Not much real thought goes into anything other than the name.

So, accomodate them. "Vegas Pro Version 5" would let everyone know it is a "Professional Product," and at the same time give continuity with the current numbering system. And, as an extra bonus, it would be "Version 5" to Premier Pro's un=numbered Pro version. Nice idea.

An aside: What EVER the name of the new version, I hope Sony doesn't decide to cripple it with that ScreenBlaster name. That would mark it forever as a low-level consumer toy.

Lets hope that "Sony Picture's Vegas Pro Version 5," or something equally impressive is in the offing.

Remember the first version was called Vegas Pro. That was back before all the advanced video capabilties were added.

What about in the scripting arena? Just bug fixes or new functionality, too?

Vegas will not be professional until it is not called Vegas.

Vegas is a bad name.

Plain and simple.
BillyBoy wrote on 8/11/2003, 8:49 PM
Oh no... not its a bad name therefore it ain't "professional" software issue again.

Lets see, Apple computer. Sorry, anything named after a piece of fruit somehow doesn't inspire any confidence in its computing power.

So how about other "professional" editing solutions:

AVID?
Final Cut Pro?

Either of those names sound more professional? Not to me.

Premiere?

The name is misleading to anyone that's actually used it. Prima donna as in undisciplined
and hard to manage would be closer to the mark.

OK Matt, since you're the one that don't like the name Vegas, what would you have named it and why?

Vegas the NAME and Vegas the APP...

I know people who who pull out their credit card and think that rows of fancy software titles lined up on their shelves and a "BIG" camera impresses people...I'll put my "Vegas" and GL-1 up against them any day.

It's not what you use (or what it's called), it's what you DO with it...

What's in a name? The first thing I think of when someone mentions Final Cut Pro is the title of a not-so-memorable Southpark movie . . . .
Chienworks wrote on 8/12/2003, 6:36 AM
Actually, Final Cut Pro strikes me as the best name out there. It's strong and professional and gets the idea across very nicely.

I know many budding video enthusiasts who have purchased a Mac simply because they've heard the name "Final Cut Pro" and felt that was the only way to go. Amusingly enough, most of them find out after they bought the Mac that they can't afford Final Cut Pro and end up using iMovie instead. *sheesh* They could have gotten a great PC and Vegas for less than they paid for the Mac.

How about "Hollywood"?
BrianStanding wrote on 8/12/2003, 12:28 PM
I would have named it "Video Forge."
Maverick wrote on 8/12/2003, 12:53 PM
Trouble is that so many companies are calling their software this- Pro and that-Pro giving high expecations when the actual product is complete rubbish. This could lead to people actually being put off the Pro title for this very reason.

How about Sony Vegas Expert?

Cheers

I Know!!!!!!!!!

Why don't we just call it.................. "VEGAS"

SOFO, you owe me some money for that one :-)

Ben  wrote on 8/12/2003, 2:29 PM
Hmmm, well it's a video and <audio> program, so Video Forge just might not do it...

Why don't we just name it George Bush and get it over with. Then no matter what mistakes it makes, Congress will excuse it.
Jsnkc wrote on 8/12/2003, 3:42 PM
Video Forge sounds silly, maybe AV Forge would be better, and shorter or possibly Media Forge.
BillyBoy wrote on 8/12/2003, 3:46 PM
Duh... now that Vegas has gained some name recognition and press ,Sony would be foolish to tamper with the name. Sony ISN'T foolish.
wcoxe1 wrote on 8/12/2003, 5:52 PM
Me, I think that Veg-a-Matic would be great! Oops, taken :p
riredale wrote on 8/12/2003, 8:35 PM
Okay, since it's more than just video, I suggest we call it "MediaForge."

Oops, someone already mentioned that name. In that case, I'll second the name "MediaForge."
