Dear Sonic Foundry,
I saw the DA-MAX+ box at NAB this year. Quite a snazzy little contratption! It even has 4:2:2 digital in/out via SDI connectors. It connects to the PC via IEEE 1394.
I was talking with an engineer at work today, and we calculated that in theory there is enough bandwith on the IEEE connection to stream a 4:2:2 D1 signal. I wonder if it will be possible at some point in the future to stream the SDI input from the DA-MAX+ over the IEEE connection and into the PC? I suppose this would require a modification to the DA-MAX+, but it seems that otherwise this would be a software-only change... which is in-line with Sonic's strategy of keeping Vegas hardware neutral. But this would allow users to get 4:2:2 video in and out of Vegas without needing to provide support for proprietary hardware boards like Matrox DigiSuite!!
Sounds like a good idea, eh? (hint, hint)
Sincerely,
Nate
