4:3 DVD edits to YouTube HD?

Pardon me if this has already been covered here. I have a non copy-protected DVD with a 4:3 aspect ratio. I'd like to pull it into VMS10 for simple edits (which I know how to do) and post to YouTube in HD, if possible. Converting 4:3 to 16:9 confuses me, as I am still learning. Or, should I stay with 4:3 and post it that way to YouTube? Retaining most if not all of the DVD's original quality would be optimal. VMS10 project settings? Export settings? Any tips on how to best procede are greatly appreciated !!!

You will not be retaining original quality by upsampling dvd to HD resolution.
Best to give Youtube the standard 480 resolution.
If you want to fill the frame you can crop the top and bottom to fit the aspect, but again you will lose some of the image and quality as well.

16x9 does not automatically make anything HD. There is such a thing as 16x9 Standard Def. video.

A DVD is, by definition, SD. You might be able to "convert" it to HD but it won't make it better (and verly likely will make it worse)

Thank you musicvid. As a newbie to VMS10 (audio pro for 30+ years) I'm still unsure as to how to best procede for this edit/conversion. VMS10 settings? Export to YT setongs? 4:3 to 16:9 conversion setttings?

Your Event Pan/Crop has a 16:9 crop preset.
Just render using a stock MPEG-2 DVD preset.
Youtube will accept it just fine.
