Vegas got a 4k template but you can not render 4K why???? what is the point of having a 4K preset but can't render 4k.

AVI might do it. I'm trying right now. Set project settings to 4k, then in AVI Render, set to match project settings? It's rendering SOMETHING, I'll let you know in a bit here..

I'm in VP11, and seems okay: properties say it is 4096x2304x59.
probably have to convert it to some other format somehow as needed.
I don't think my machine can play it back in real time, but it is there and big when viewed as 100% full size on my 1920x1080 laptop screen. Looks pretty good too!

You can also render to 4k using MainConcept AVC.

ok here is what i've found. Earlier post I tried to render a 4k with Cineform codec (Neoscense) It rendered fine but the video has watermark said codec error. I think it needs Cineform 4.4.4 codec in order to render 4K.

I have also tried AVI uncompresed rendered out 4K short clip (huge file) and the color washed out. This one is no good and is not pactical to use it.

The winner is Sony YUV codec. It rendered 4K great and the color is vibrant and good file size. If you tried 4K in mainConcept, Sony AVC ect. you will probably get an errors OR crush video.

Sony AVC render is limited to 1920x1080.

I rendered to 4k with MainConcept AVC several times (4096x2304p24, with average bit rates from 40 mbit/s up) and it worked fine. No error or crush video. Be sure to use CPU render only.

If you used Sony YUV and say it's a good file size - are you sure it rendered 4k? This is an uncompressed encoding type with extremely high data rate.

Yes it is indeed, I checked the property, it a 4096x2304. Sony YUV file size is a hell lot smaller than AVI uncompressed which I think it much more accetable . For some reasons, 4k render work great on my end with Sony YUV. All others are not working right for me.

Yes, it should be only about 50 % percent of AVI uncompressed, because of the reduced color sampling (4:4:4 AVI and 4:2:2 Sony YUV).

Where do I find SONY YUV? Dug through most of the render options and didn't find it. Thanks!

UPDATE: k, I found YUV under AVI... is that the one?? I just thought that was AVI....

Matt,

Under "Video for Windows (*.avi)", there are YUV options. For example, "NTSC SD YUV".

Thanks,

Adam

I thought 4K was only fully implemented in VP12?

I'm using the latest Vegas Pro 13 so I don't know if this will work for you, but I started with the Main Concept Internet 1080p preset and changed resolution to 3840x2160 by selecting "custom frame size" and typing in the numbers myself. I tweaked some other settings as well like bitrates, etc. There's no gpu assist on the encoding side alas, but the gpu is still used when it's composing the frame which speeds up the process tremendously, about 4 times for me since I use FilmConvert which fully supports the gpu. Without gpu a 50 minute 4k encode becomes ~4 hours long! I wish one day they would have a good 4k gpu encoder but I digress...
