5.0b preview playback issue

mjbarnard wrote on 6/27/2004, 1:29 AM
Since upgrading to 5.0b timeline playback in the preview window is jerky (very low frame rate) when the window is enlarged at all. The same project on the same system played normally just prior to upgrade.

Even stranger - I left a few seconds of plain video looping and unlike 5.0a the frame rate does not gradually increase up to full speed with repeated loops.

While I get acceptable frame rates with the window in its smallest size - this is incovenient at times.

The preview window has not been changed in terms of quality - it remains on preview (auto).

I noticed Spot mentioned some problem with timeline playback in 5.0b - is this an issue with the new build?

hi mjbarnard,
I also have preview problems with both v5.0 & 5.0a .
1. jumping down to draft quality and then to best again doesn't restore to full quality with imported DV footage.
2. playback preview of mpeg2 movies isn't as smooth as in Vegas 4.0. it's rather erratic.
3. I also get low frame rate with v.5. the same mpeg2 file is running steady around 25fps even with a larger preview window.

I'm glad someone else has mentioned this as well, I seem to be having this issue as well. I cannot get the system to preview DV footage with no FX even on external monitor at 25fps, used to work fine in V4.

Same here. Makes it hard to make transitions and such, cause it's hard to see how it's actually turns out.

Hope they can fix this, didn't have that problem with Vegas 4

I have this problem, too, starting with V5. With any effects at all, I get full frame rate only with preview window set at the smallest size.

Never had these problems with V4.

Should also mention that I spoke with Sony about this problem several weeks ago. They seemed not to have heard of it.

XOG,
that's a worry, did they just dismiss it or did they say they'd look into it further?

I spent fifteen, twenty minutes with them on the phone, trying to explain the situation, trying various fixes. Nothing worked. They then recommended that I send a description of the problem via email, to which I also attached a .veg file. They said someone would get back with me, but I haven't heard anything yet.

I love Vegas, but would surely love to have this problem fixed!

Sound similar to what I have and posted about here:

Preview problem

hi everyone,
I've sent an error report to Sony on the playback issue via their support page, a few days back. at first, I thought my old Athlon XP 2100+ was too slow... I had similar playback problems with the Ulead video studio6 SE, that came with my Leadtek A340ultra vivo card. that software crashed alot, but Vegas 3, 4 & 5 have been very stable on all of my computers over the years :-) pity it doesn't support mpeg2 capture though!

I too am having this issue with 5.0B. I thought it was just me, but I see that it isnt. If I let a particular short piece loop MANY times, it gets better, but nothing like how it worked in version 4.

Same problems here... not sure if it got worse in v5.0b. I think maybe it is worse.

Sometimes my preview will be playing and it will get stuck; the video freezes and the audio keeps playing. I understand that maybe the system can't keep up, but when this happens the whole interface freezes; I can't click buttons or use keyboard commands, and it will just keep playing until it decides to stop after maybe 5 seconds or so. I've noticed this a bunch in the trimmer, but also on the main timeline preview as well, IIRC.

DITTO Here also!

In the final stages of a 45min. project and I noticed the same symptoms as most others with playback/preview. Just as Summersond, thinking it must be hardware, I added more ram - 1Gb. more but the problems persists. This whole preview situation needs immediate attention. The above project went out the door in a substandard mode.
