5.0d Major Bug!!!! No render output

I very rarely render inside the box using Vegas, but today I had a reason to, and found a major bug using multiple sound cards, that I didn't see in earlier builds. It took me awhile to track the cause of this one down.

I'm using dual Echo Gina20 sound cards and the Classic Wave driver. In the mixer section I have 10 Stereo output buses, 1 bus assigned per output pair. When I render a mix, it gives me a blank file everytime. Render>Wave

Here's how to reproduce the bug.
1. Add 6 stereo buses to the mixer section
2. Assign Buses 1-5 (Master is bus #1) to Gina card#1 1/2, 3/4,5/6,7/8, Digi out 1/2
3. Everything is fine up to this point if I drop in a track and assign it to the master output, and everything renders fine with what I'm hearing.
4. Assign Bus#6 to Gina#2 1/2.
Nothing changed but assigning bus outputs to the second Gina card.
5. Now render the mix as a Wave.....Here's what the resulting Wave file is, An empty wave file, although when I'm playing it back everything is ok.
I can route tracks to buses assigned to the second Gina card and they playback fine. It's having multiple buses assigned to the 2 different cards, which causes it to not render any audio.

As i noticed this bug lives in the earier versions of Vegas too.
I use RME HDSP w/Multiface connected to a Macke 32*8. I can only render (non-master-routed, for e.g. SPDIF out) busses if i change their outputs to the AN1+2 (analog out 1-2, my default playback output)

If the master bus is routed for e.g. to AN3+4 and the bus out is routed to MASTER the rendered files are empty again.

Not so comfortible, but i can live with it.. I believe in the hybrid system. (analog/digital/analog/digital) I hit the "record" button, rather than choose "render as.."

vvv.

Yep, now that I went back. I found the bug is in Vegas 4 also, and also in Acid 5. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one seeing it. I'm like you, I usually do most of my mixing outside of Vegas, because I prefer my external FX's and compressors, and EQ's compared to plugins on the most part. So I'll route my mixing boards master digital out back into Vegas and record the mix on to it's own track, so like you I mostly use the record button and not the render. It just so happened in this case, I was starting a new project, where most of the time for larger projects I have a default .Veg project that I use. Well, I had 2 tracks that were laid off from Adats, where it was dual mono files, and I wanted to combine it into a single stereo file to make it easier to work with in Vegas. So it was in that instance that I attempted to render inside the box to make the two mono files one stereo file and kept getting an empty mix.

Kinda related, but a while back (like Vegas 2, I seem to recall) there was a rendering issue where the render did not sound like the playback. It that still the case nowadays?

Not the case, I'm familiar with that one also, so I can say this one is different. This one just doesn't render ANY audio into the file at all. It goes through the rendering process and saves a file, the file just has nothing in it. For this one it seems like you need to have more than one card in your setup for it to rear it's ugly head. I tried it on my laptop where I have an external USB sound card and the onboard sound. In this setup I couldn't get a repro having multiple buses in Vegas assigned to the different cards. Sony has contacted me and said they have been able to reproduce this bug and are investigating it. It would be nice to see a fix, for this in V5, but V6 is only a couple weeks away from release, so I'm highly doubting it, although I consider this a major bug. If it's definately a Sony bug, I'ld expect an update fix in a 6.0a update, and an Acid Pro update, I'm sure it's too close to the Vegas 6 release, to make it there.

Yeah, sorry, I understood all of that, I guess I was just hijacking the thread :/

I'm bad like that!

Man, this pisses me off, I didn't "EDIT" my last post, other then adding the last sentence like 2 seconds after it got posted. I really really wish Sony would fix this bug and let me edit the post within 10 seconds and NOT have it say it was edited. I almost killed myself because of the long drawn-out depression is caused. I was soo sad, I had to see a couseler and get electro-shock therapy, and then, I don't know if it was a dream or what (though I have the bruises to sorta-prove it) I remember a really really fat guy sit on me while I was sleeping. He said I was going to be alright, that I was gonna be cured, and that I was about to take a shower. That was really wierd, if that was a bug, I'd also like Sony to consider fixing it for the next release. Come ON!

Also, my toaster the other day caught on fire, and I'd really.....

okay, I'm done, no I wasn't making fun of any of you, just killing time as I take a short break from work.
