5.1 AAC in MP4 errors in Vegas 9

I would like to render an MP4 with 5.1 audio, when I try to do this I get this error: "An error occurred while opening a codec"

My steps to duplicate the issue:

I click on file then render as then Select Sony AVC I click on Memory Stick SD NTSC -2128 Kbps. Click Custom, then click Audio, in the "Audio coding mode:" I select 5.1 Surround. After clicking on save I get the error that says "An error occurred while opening a codec"

Any Suggestions?

When you get an error message right away then it's usually a setting that you have wrong.

My PURE GUESS is that you didn't change the audio bitrate when switching from stereo to 5.1. The bitrate on the audio tab, just above "coding mode" defaults at 128,000 which is good for stereo but too low for 5.1 sound..... try kicking the bit rate up to 384,000
