5.1 audio

I am using a HDR CX550v....shooting with 5.1 audio. Over the weekend I edited a 90 minute piece to 45 minutes & rendered it. It has been awhile since I have edited anything and I failed to notice that what i was editing was showing up in Vegas as only 2 channels, even though it is 5.1. I must have incorrectly set or didn't set something....I confirmed just now that importing one of the many clips...they now show up in 5.1.

My question....Is there anyway to use the VEG files to re-render the edited piece in 5.1?? I'd rather not have to edit it again just to get 5.1.

Thx

Load up the VEG and change the project properties to 5.1 .

Of course you will have to remix the audio for 5.1, cos Vegas has no way of knowing what you want. If you did actually mix it 5.1 and simply rendered to 2 channel, then it's just a case of re-rendering with the correct target spec.

Thanks for replying, Geoff.

I loaded the VEG and changed the properties to 5.1.....still, only 2 tracks appear.

Not sure what you mean by remixing it.....

Originally, when i was editing the files it only displayed stereo. I didn't even think about it till after rendering. I then realized my oversight.

So, now i have this VEG file with 2 channels from source files that are 5.1.

I think Geoff meant to start a new 5.1 project, then add your media.
;?)

That's what i was afraid of....I gotta re-edit it.

Oh well...Thx!

It may help to open the original VEG, change Properties to 5.1, then drag material in again to new tracks using the earlier cut as a guide; when finished just delete or mute the originals.

That's a good idea.

Exactly how did you record 5:1, which is usually a mix process?
That said, you can remix the audio, render it to the proper audio format and replace.. adaptively mux the new mix in, if it's embedded in a MP2 or MP4 video file If the audio is separate for DVD of BU, (which it should be anyway), just replace the audio file and burn a new disc.

If you change the project properties to Master Bus = 5.1, of course your existing timeline will remain the same as Vegas cannot know if you have new media to add, or what panning decisions you want in the new audio field.

Sorry, not sure how and existing "5.1 media into a stereo project" media files display, but you may have to drop the original media back onto the timeline again from the media pool and copy across envelopes etc.

However the track-header PAN controls will now change to a 5.1 'joystick'. You do have to 'remix' as far as applying the 5.1 panning goes - Vegas does not know your wishes !

Existing FX, splits, fades, etc on timeline tracks and events will remain unaltered, except (guessing here) ones that require specific output configuration for 5.1 .
